Review the existing construction

Plan the details around openings and junctions
Insulation needs to connect properly at floor edges, roofs, windows and doors. Gaps and awkward junctions can undermine the intended result. Available space, the condition of the structure and the planned finishes affect what can be installed.
Keep ventilation and moisture in the plan
Better insulation and draught sealing should not mean less fresh air. Review ventilation and existing moisture problems alongside the insulation work. Covering a damp surface does not solve the cause of the dampness.
Agree specifications before installation
The quotation should state the areas, proposed materials and relevant insulation values, together with preparation and finishing work. The final energy performance depends on the whole building; an insulation product alone does not guarantee an A+++ home or a fixed reduction in bills.
Discuss the scope and budget
Access, removal of old finishes, material thickness and repairs to the existing construction influence the cost. Check any applicable ISDE conditions before relying on subsidy funding.
